It gives us great pleasure to apprise you about Lanka AAC (Pvt) Ltd, a company that is a subsidiary of Access Engineering PLC. As you are known, this brick was produced as a result of collaboration with industry and the University of Peradeniya utilizing coal ash from the Norochcholai coal power station. The research and development team deserves our deepest admiration and gratitude for assisting in building this brick and this company at the highest level. The dimensions of this brick highlight its uniqueness and help reduce the amount of sand, cement, and wire used in the building.
People are beginning to realize that we need to alter our lifestyles so that future generations may live the same standard of living that we do. Declaring that it is essential for the survival of our planet is not dramatic since the future of our country depends on it. Researchers from all around the world have discovered that, when it comes to energy, coal-based power generates more than 750 Mt of coal ash annually, but less than 30% of this output is really used. A lot of fly ash is temporarily kept in stockpiles before being dumped in landfills or retention ponds. However, coal fly ash (CFA) is an important industrial solid waste and our research team at the University of Peradeniya found that in Sri Lanka, the traditional techniques employed for its disposal can lead to severe and long-lasting environmental problems.
We also came to the realization that deep research into CFA recycling technology is crucial because coal ash is thought to be a large potential source for the discharge of numerous ecologically delicate components into the environment. As a result, we used several ingredients like cement, lime, gypsum, and expansion agent to blend with it using a standard process to make this amazingly lightweight, cost-effective fly ash brick. That is how Lanka AAC Pvt Ltd.’s adventure got started. As we look back on the company's accomplishments and performances over the past few years, we want to start by acknowledging our Quality Assurance Engineers and the entire team for the admirable work they have done to ensure that the company keeps its commitment to being a leader in the sustainable transformation of Sri Lanka's built environment.
The past few years were unprecedented with the post-Covid-19 outbreak, the nation's economic downturn, and the drop in the forex rate profoundly impacting every facet of society. While it brought unique challenges to Lanka AAC Pvt Ltd, we promptly focused on, identified, and assessed key issues and implemented specific actions cognizant of potential disruptions. A robust vision to transform the construction industry in Sri Lanka by bringing up ‘Strong on our wall, Light on our planet’ completely following the green building practices and fully adopting a sustainable lifestyle. By exporting this brick to nations like the Maldives, we hope to expand both the local and international markets within the next few years.
Yet, we believe to improve the quality of the built environment through the precision and objectivity of reducing the load on the foundation and other structural elements is crucial. It is advantageous for the company to have strong employee and community engagement. From our perspective, a well-administered quality product has a good steward of the environment and delivers strong take-home messages to society. Well, that’s exactly what we delivered throughout these past years. What’s even better – Lanka AAC Pvt Ltd has our own culture, operating model, and growth plans that will enable us to continue providing services for years to come. Our strong growth during past years was aided by a few notable qualities of the brick such as energy-saving, fire-resistant, the accuracy of manufacturing, easy loading and unloading in transportation, and high resistance to extreme weather conditions.
The Lanka AAC Pvt Ltd intends to utilize the knowledge and technology that was initially developed in Sweden in the 1920s and the autoclaving process results in the creation of air voids in the material, making it less dense. To cope with the sustainable green building requirements, and to enormously influence our society, the production of fly ash brick is convenient. Since the nation's economic condition is not stable at the moment, and the price of cement varies every moment, this termite-free, excellent acoustics and accuracy fly ash brick will be one of the best solutions according to our viewpoint.
And we'd like to extend a welcome to all of Sri Lanka's greener-life-passionate citizens, to benefit from these environmentally friendly and sustainable trendy products! We are expecting to enhance our research and development efforts meanwhile. All of the aforementioned physical qualities of the fly ash brick will enable Lanka AAC Pvt Ltd to expand more quickly than in previous years and to fulfill its mission of "Sustainable Sri Lanka,"
Finally, we’re so grateful and appreciate all our professional business partners who have supported us no matter what. As well as to the employees and engineers who are working tirelessly on our behalf.
