The 14-floor historic apartment building at 14 Rudra Mawatha in Colombo 06 is moving forward. The building has nearly reached its completion. Up to the ninth story, the 100% brick construction has been completed with Lanka AAC blocks.

The 10-storey 18,444-square-foot building can accommodate 252 vehicles. The move is part of building around 12 new car parks in urban cities including eight in the Colombo city. The cost is borne by the UDA and it will be the first multi-level car park to be built by a Government agency.

Initiated by the Ministry of Urban Development, Water Supply and Housing Facilities, the project is partly funded by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) which is a multilateral development bank. The project is for the construction of 1000 housing units for low – income earners of which AEL serves as the main contractor. The Urban Development Authority (UDA) has spearheaded a series of housing development programs under the Urban Regeneration Program since 2011 with the GoSL’s housing policy of ensuring affordable access to adequate housing for everyone.
